Abstrak Volume 2 of Forage Seed Production covers tropical and subtropical species, Like the companion Volume 1 (Temperate Species), it is the product of collaboration between CAR biternational and the International Herbage Seed Production Research Group (IIHSPRG). The latter is a professional association with members in 57 different countries from temperate through to tropical zones. Despite such diverse locations. IHSPRG members are united through a common interest in seed prosduction, an important but often neglected prerequisite for forage use. Their research activities cover a wide range of topics, including the development of new cultivars physiological aspects of seed formation; management, harvesting and processing of the crop, seed quality testing and assurance, and seed storage and marketing Volume 2 is a multi-authored book. However, with fewer people involved in tropical/subtropical forage seed production, the task of preparing Volume 2 has inevitably fallen to a smaller number of contributors than was

However, with fewer people involved in tropical/subtropical forage seed production, the task of preparing Volume 2 has inevitably fallen to a smaller number of contributors than was the case for Volume 1. To the extent authors were available, we have endeavoured to strike an international balance and to achieve a worldwide flavour in the book. In all, 31 authors drawn from 11 countries and all continents are directly associated with Volume 2. Their expertise covers both the public (government research programmes and universities) and the private sectors (seed companies, laboratories and private consultants). We would sincerely like to thank all our authors for the time and effort they put into completing their respective chapters. Their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm made our role as overall editors of Volume 2 much easier. The chapters in Volume 2 are grouped into two main sections: Part Two where the current principles of tropical forage seed production are outlined, and Part Three which illustrates these principles in a practical way through a series of case histories. These are preceded by an introductory overview in Part One, and complemented by a final summing up of major issues and trends in the concluding Part Four. Individual chapters have been written so that they can be read
