Abstrak | These two volumes on Forage Seed Production (Volume 1: Temperate Species: Volume 2: Tropical and Subtropical Species) have evolved as a result of consider- able international collaboration between personnel from CAB INTERNATIONAL (CABI) and the International Herbage Seed Production Research Group (IHSPRG) This collaboration was facilitated greatly by our ability to communicate electroni cally, which has been particularly important for the editors because it allowed them to strive for more multi-authored contributions in the relatively short time during which these volumes were produced. Hopefully, this has enhanced the utility and scope of the information for all 'students' of this branch of agricultural science. IHSPRG is a professional association with members in 57 different countries spanning temperate, tropical and subtropical climatic zones, with a major interest in an often neglected aspect of forage crops-seed production. The widely diverging interests and research activities of IHSPRG members incl |

IHSPRG is a professional association with members in 57 different countries spanning temperate, tropical and subtropical climatic zones, with a major interest in an often neglected aspect of forage crops-seed production. The widely diverging interests and research activities of IHSPRG members include the physiological processes that play a role in seed production, the breeding of cultivars with high potential seed production, the culture and management of the crop and pollinator to optimize seed production, the establishment of standards to measure seed quality, and the marketing of forage seeds in a global economy. All these many aspects are included in these two volumes on forage seed production. Each volume comprises a number of chapters which attempt to assemble the chronological sequence that documents the establishment of the crop in the field, the determination and realization of its yield potential, and ultimately the sale of the final product the seed. Experts in various fields and often from different countries and/or continents have collaborated in writing each chapter. All this would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of the authors who generously gave of their time and effort. The authors come from both the public (government research laboratories and universities) and private sectors (small research laboratories or multinational seed companies) and, despite their many other commitments, have managed to work together and meet the |
