The rapid development of technology invention and highly dynamic policy changes have prompted the importance of understanding the complex interrelationships between theory, research, and reality. 1, as the Director General of IAARD, have attempted to integrate various ideas presented in the book, starting with those which emphasize on technical matter to those which underlining the future that seems to be more challenging. Then I realize that the clue to find the essence of this collection of interesting articles is the bonds and correlations between those thoughts. I have compared between advantages and possible disadvantages of the thoughts shared by the respectable writers in this book in order to illuminate the compatibility of each approach to enhance the resilience of sustainable food production in the country. I hope that this collection of academic thoughts will be able to allow the policy makers to widen their understanding on the important roles of research and development in relation to improving the resilience of food production sustainability by comparing the possible advantages and disadvantages of employing each specific approach presented in this book. We should not think that this book is merely a buffet or cafeteria for us to select just one item that we personally need. Yet, I suggest us all to read the book thoroughly before arriving to a conclusion that shared some crucial point that represents the heart of this book. The thoughts of our writers in this book are like a world of intersecting secrecies; when those secrecies meet, we find the essence or the "heart" of the book. During several decades of national development effort, sustainable food security and nutrition has been a paramount goal of agricultural development. Many endeavors to fulfill the demand for food and nutrition have been implemented in relation to alleviate poverty, hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition. Great efforts to improve sustainable agriculture and fishery sectors development have been implemented, supported by the government's policy appropriate for various ecosystems in the country. Technical approaches to reverse the trend of land degradation have been employed through strategies on mapping and assessment of the status of overall land degradation that occurred in various land uses; for example: plantation, rice field, upland farming, and abandoned agricultural lands. The development of market driven agriculture commodity, such as oil palm plantation and industry should be maintained and developed due to its significant contribution to the country's revenue. It also provides significant solutions to employment. Yet, cognizance has to be taken due to its potential to harm the surrounding ecosystem as a result of its capability to produce high carbon stock. The scope of institutional support includes improvement of capacities of research and extension agencies in accommodating and facilitating traditional knowledge of farmers
