Subjek Plasmids -- Drug resistance -- Escherichia coli -- SWINE -- ISOLATION -- CHICKENS -- CATTLE -- INDONESIA
Catatan Drug resistance in Escherichi coli strains isolated from cattle, pigs andschickens in Indonesia was investigated using six kinds of antibiotics and chemotherapeutics; oxytetracycline hydrochloride; chloramphenicol, dihydrostreptomycin, sulfadimethoxine, kanamycin and aminobenzyl penicillin. A total of 756 E. coli strains which consisted of 309 from cattle, 235 from pigs and 212 from chickens, resprectively, were isolated from rectal contents or fresh feces. The resistance pattern varied from single to quintuple in the cattle isolates and from single sextuple in the pig and chicken isolates, conjugative R plasmids were detected in 17.8% of the cattle isolates, 14.4% of the pig isolates and 42.7% of chickens isolates, respectively. It is of interest that most of the E. coli strains isolated from day-old chicks before feeding has resistance, suggesting that these resistant strains were originated from hutchers which might be contaminated wirh drug-resistant bacteria. These results suggest that incidence of drug
