Kata kunci: gambut, produktivitas, ketahanan pangan ABSTRACT Food demand is expected to grow along with population growth. On the other hand, the area of agricultural land continues to decline. Agricultural development towards suboptimal land such as peat soils need to be developed in order to increase food productivity. However, peatland has a number of constrain for crop cultivation were related to the physical and chemical characteristics of peat soils such as perishability, high acidity and low fertility. In order to develop peat soils for supporting food self-sufficiency in Riau Province, the government need to be implement some strategies implementation and innovations, namely 1) water management technology, 2) selection of high value and adaptive commodities to peatlands, 3) amelioration, 4) fertilization and 5) utilization of indigenous biological microbes in peat soils.
