Data and information add value to plant genetic resources collection. Technologies for generating and analyzing large quantities of genotypic and phenotyoic data are evolving at accelerating rates. This high volume of data is beyond the capacity of the traditional data processing software to deal with. In the era of big data, one of the significant challenges faced by scientists and plant breeders is the need to accesc information about plant genetic resources quickly and efficiently. The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture established global information system in support of the multilateral system of access on plant genetic resources and the sharing of the benefir arising from their use. One innovative approach in the global information system is the assignation of Digital Object Identifiers ti crop germplasm. This identifier may function ad "google" in plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, i.e. by knowing the identifier one can find all information on accession of plant genetic resources assigned with such identifier.
