A total number of 70 malignant catarrhal fever (MCI.) cases were diagnosed in Balitvet in 1989-1995 based on the pathognomonic lesion of MCF namely vasculitis. The aim of the study was to evaluate the distribution and the severity of the lesions observed. The cases were compiled from 61 natural infections (32 buffaloes from the private slaughterhouses in Bogor district, It buffaloes from Balitnak, Ciawi, 2 buffaloes from Tegal district, 3 buffaloes and 9 Bali cattle from Balitvet, Bogor, and 4 Bali cattle from Mataram), and 9 experimental infections conducted in Balitvet, Bogor (3 buffaloes and 6 Bali cattle) using beparimsed blood or lymphoblastoid cells from infected animals. Histologically, the main target organs for MCF were as follows: brain (81.6%), kidney (75.7%), rete nurabde (75.0%), liver (64.3%), and lung (61.2%) followed by another organs in the lower percentage values. The degree of the severity were varied amongst them but the lesions could be classified as mild (18.6%), moderate (34.3%), severe (21.4%), and highly severe (24.3%).
