Nineteen buffaloes housed onthe institute estate were used. Eleven buffaloes had a natural infection with Sarcoptesscabiei (5 were treated and6remained untreated) and 8buffaloeswere infested with Psoroptes(4 were treated and 4remained untreated). Treatmentwith Ivermectin (Ivomec, MSDAGVET, UK) was undertaken at a dose rate of 200 mcg/kg bodyweight. Treatment wascarried outtwicewith an interval of3weeks between treatments. Results of skin scrapings andclinical observation demonstrated that goodcontrolof Sarcoptes was achieved and treatment appeared to be associated with an increased in bodyweight. The treated animals increased in weight by an averageof 8.7% during the course ofthe experiment. In the untreatedanimalsbodyweight decreasedbyan average of 3.7%. Twoyoung buffaloesdied with asevere infection ofSarcoptes. Ofthebuffaloes infested with Psoropta threerespondedto treatmentbut onebuffalo continued to harboured living mites throughout the experiment. J.
