Keracunan sianida pada ternak di Bojonegoro akibat memakan tanaman sorghum (Sorghum spp) text 1985 Penyakit Hewan Vol.17(29) p.292-295 The acute deaths of 4 cattle and 1 goat at Bojonogero, East Java, wich occurred after eating sorghum was thought to be due to cyanide or nitrate. The cyanide and nitrate contents of the types of plants suspected was investigated with qualitative field test and quantitative lab analyses. The concentration of cyanide (216.8 63.2 ppm, fresh weigh) in sorghum leaves was sufficiently high to endanger livestock, while the nitrate content was low. From these results , and the clinical signs of acute death, it was concluded that the animals died from cyanide poisoning as a result of eating sorghum. This report is thought to be the first documented case of acute cyanide poisoning from consumption of plants in Indonesia.
