Penyakit cengesan atau selesma pada itik Tegal, Bali dan Alabio text 1983 Penyakit Hewan Vol.15(25) p.61-71 A study fo a respiratory disease called cengesan or selesma in local duck breeds was described. The disease had been affecting Tegal,Bali and Alabio ducks in several areas of the country, including Java, Bali, Lombok, South Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Lampung. The clinical signs of the disease were: enlargement of the sinus/sinuses (63 percents of the birds affected), conjunctivitis (48 percents), nasal discharge (33 percents). Sneezing ang coughing were encountered in very rare cases. Congestion in the sinus walls (95 percents) and airsacculitis (87 percents) were the commonest pathological findings in the carcases of the diseased animals. Prevalence of the disease was variable from 4 percents up to 100 percents with six week old ducklings being mainly affected. Influenza virus was isolated from the respiratory organs of suspected animals. It was concluded that the disease was duck sinusitis caused by influenza virus infection.
